The smell of wool
We received another tip from our guests. We love it when you share your suggestions with us! These tourists visited the Van Buren tannery, a family business established in 1861. Generations raised around the smell of wool. This truly is the only tannery where the entire tanning process is executed from start to finish, and where visitors are welcome. And you can buy sheepskins here as well! Another destination to be included in our guide with secret hotspots. You will find the tannery on the Workumertrekdreef 5 in Bolsward. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Tours are possible if you call in advance: 0515-572461
June 24th – last day of the asparagus season!
And asparagus are the favourite vegetable of Jacob and Karin. The Dutch asparagus season only lasts two months. The first asparagus appear in spring, in February or in early March. They are traditionally harvested from the second Thursday in April until 24 June… which happens to be Karin’s birthday… Coincidence? Then the plant is left alone to have the opportunity to grow and boost its health for the next season. The green asparagus foliage above ground collects solar energy which is stored in the roots. Graasboerderij Deinum-Ensing sells homegrown asparagus’ . Their farm is at Sondelerleane 5 in Sondel. Open every friday and saturday from 13:00 till 17:00 h. Otherwise please: 0514-603298
