Feel like catching a breeze?
The Month of May is Cycling Month. Take a ride from the campsite to the harbour. Every Thursday – and given enough interest, more often – you can take your bike on the local 10:30 boat service to the village of Balk. Enjoy an approx. 2.5-hour trip on an authentic Skûtsje (Frisian sailing boat). The skipper will be happy to tell you all about the scenery along the way. From Balk, you return to Heeg following a beautiful (30 km) cycling route. This gives you the chance to fully enjoy the green and wooded landscape, the vast waters and unique views. You can book via www.skutsjeverhuurhaghe.nl. The boat offers space for max. 15 people (including bikes). Single tickets are €19 for adults and €9.50 for children.
The cutest shop in the Netherlands …..
is in Leeuwarden, of course! The Frisian delicatessen Priuw on the Oosterstraat was chosen as the cutest shop in the Netherlands by the NL Streets Awards in 2016. This is where the enthusiastic owner, Hielkje van de Molen, sells the most beautiful and tastiest regional products. Our boys, Maarten and Maurits, visited her to make a short video report. Take a look at the film on our YouTube-Channel.
Museum Drachten celebrates 100 years of De Stijl
Dutch art movement De Stijl was established a century ago this year. This group of artists aimed for a total renewal of art, fitting a modern society that would break with the past. During the entire month of May, Museum Dr8888 (City of Drachten) will be presenting the exhibition ‘Theo van Doesburg, Colour in Architecture’. Soak up the atmosphere of this revolutionary period and enjoy the colourful designs, the stained-glass windows, paintings and poetry. More information? Go to: www.museumdrachten.nl
